Planting a seed for future generations

Supporting mentorship and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within the field of Veterinary Medicine

Sankofa Veterinary Project is a nonprofit that launched in Spring 2022 with the goal of exposing BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) students to the veterinary field. We match high school students with veterinary clinics and research facilities to provide internships and mentoring.

Our mission is that by supporting these BIPOC students through the Sankofa Veterinary Project it will ultimately decrease those students’ barriers with applying to veterinary school. We hope that this support will allow the students the types of experiences that will enhance their desire to pursuit and the preparation needed to apply to veterinary school.

Do you know a BIPOC high school student interested in a future in veterinary medicine? Click here to apply.

Sankofa is an African word from the Akan tribe in Ghana that means “go back and get it.” The spirit of Sankofa reminds us that we must continue to move forward as we remember our past. At the same time, we plant a seed for the future generations that come after us.
